Cake for Lacy

Here is a butter cream barbie cake I made for Lacy's 24th birthday. Clara Fay picked out the colors to use for her mom. 3 year olds know how to pick princess colors.

First Barbie Cake

I think fondant is fabulous!

For Carmen

This was my first attempt at sculpting. I have a long way to go but at least she it recognizable as a gal. This cake was for my neighbor Carmen's birthday. It is fondant, and royal icing. I call the cake cover "stained glass" fondant. My own technique.

I love making cakes

This cake was for my niece's 28th birthday. I had the best time making this one. I had a request for "no fondant" which would have made this cake a lot smoother and decorative, but I still had fun.

I'm not sure if I'm getting the hang of this or not....But I sure am having fun.

What I have learned. Gum paste is fun to work with but smells and taste a bit odd. I can not wait to make flowers like the "Cake Boss". I wonder if he needs an apprentice?

Who Says Fondant is Yucky Tasting?

After hearing that fondant is yucky and you just peel it off and throw it away, I decided to make my own and skip the "ready made". I think I found a yummy one with this wonderful recipe from Peggy Weaver. http://www.whatscookingamerica.net/PegW/Fondant.htm I have never worked with fondant (heck I am just now getting the hang of butter cream) so this was a real challenge for me. The recipe was easy to follow and the results were delicious. I made my first fondant covered cake and although not flawless it turned out pretty darn cute. It got rave reviews from the recipient and my Oreo filling (one I created on the spur of the moment) in between the layers was spectacular. I have since signed up for Wilton's fondant and gum paste and hope to learn some real technique.
